Inspired by the beautiful Minnesota pine trees in northern Minnesota, Pinecrest founder, Russ Underdahl, Sr. decided upon the name, “Pinecrest” for his company name in 1954.
As a WWII veteran serving his country in the United States Navy in active duty he returned home to re-start his civilian life in the window covering business. Resourceful and inventive, he began his dream for movable louver shutters. With a vision to fill the order for window shutters, he collaborated with a woodworker and together they created the first solid wood movable louver shutter.
Representing his new company, Pinecrest Inc., Founder Russ Sr. printed a 1-page black and white flyer with the headliner, “I shudder to think of a house without shutters.” Completing his first order for 30 shutters, he delivered them to his vendor only to have the employees purchase all of his shutters for their homes.
Filling orders for more shutters became the foundation for Pinecrest as return customers came back for more shutters. Working hard and supplying the finest interior movable louver has continued for more than 60 years.
